How do you explain the rise in "fame" culture?

Well fame equals power and power is the great motivator of all in the animal kingdom isn't it.

As technology develops and we are better able to communicate 24/7 with virtually anyone in the world, so then are the opportunities for "fame" expanded and multiplied. I think it's natural to want power, survival of the fittest and all that; we've just made it very odd by equating things like beauty and visibility with power, eliminating the need for any real demonstration of physical or mental prowess.

It's probably one of the shortcomings of human beings; all this capacity for thought also means a great capacity for misplaced thought. We value things that entertain us to such a level that we worship it above all else.

Life didn't use to be that way. We are far too comfortable nowadays, we don't have to work as hard to eat, stay warm, travel, etc. Our basic needs are more easily met. This opens the door for focusing on the mindless. And it just keeps getting worse.

At any time any one of us might get our 15 minutes of fame times 2 (or 4 or 6...) for doing little more than letting people "spy" on our world. It's sad really.
