ah the Mad Dash. This game show was the end all be all in the late seventies/early eighties when I lived in Montreal (where this show was filmed). I was thoroughly enchanted/amazed by the giant game board you got to run on. I honestly don’t know how widely it was shown across Canada. My aunt and uncle even appeared on it. I think they won some luggage and a La-Z-Boy. Anyway, they re-broadcast this ancient relic of a game show on the game show channel these days… so of course I had to watch it.

The height of special effects wizardry for the opening of the show.

Good old Pierre Lalonde and his spiffy suit. She looks so cute in her country girl/Holly Hobbie inspired dress though. They would ask you a multiple choice question. First contestant to buzz in and pick the right answer got to roll the dice to see how many steps their partner would take on the game board.

Start hopping. $50 was big money on this show.

Prizes. OH Pantene. When Pantene was special and exotic and EXPENSIVE and washing your hair was a 12-step program. Classy and elegant packaging so you KNEW you were treating your tresses to only the best.

Sarah Coventry jewellry. Actually, pretty cute. This is inspiring me to hit Ebay to see if anyone has any of this stuff.

Dinner at the Rib Tickler. Food doesn't sound overly impressive according to this review at the time (1979). Sounds like they were more about the fries than the ribs.

It seems to be gone... possibly long gone. It's a Pizza place now. I'm surprised it's called Tasty Food Pizza...with NO sign of french at all, which seems in violation of Quebec's signage laws.

But the long barbecued ribs were "well-impregnanted"! I mean, how could you NOT want to wrap your lips around those?
