Stereotypes

It seems that as a Canadian, there are certain things that I am expected to like, things such as:

Hockey
The Tragically Hip, Rush and The Barenaked Ladies
Winter Sports, Snow, the cold in general
SCTV
Ketchup Chips

now the thing is, I don't particularly care for any of these things and in fact in the case of The Tragically Hip, Rush and especially The Barenaked Ladies, I quite dislike them. Really, REALLy dislike The Barenaked Ladies actually. Nor do I feel like I have to be a Canadiana booster. Shared country of birth/residence just isn't enough.

So, are there things that you think people expect Americans to like?

ugh, just looking at those idiots makes me angry.

You forgot poutine and Celine Dion, two other things U.S.A. citizens assume Canadians like. Also, I tend to think the smart Canadians all like Sloan too.

ok I actually really do like Poutine. But that's almost a must being as I am from Montreal (ha, there's another stereotype). It's a myth that it's a widespread treat across Canada although I guess it's starting to be. It's usually not made properly though.

I do like Sloan. But Celine....umm no. No Avril Lavigne either.

You are O.K. in my book then (though I admit i do have a sweet tooth for Lavigne's pop from time to time).

Eugh, I HATE the tragically hip so much. In fact, I dislike pretty much everything we're expected to like as Canadians, come to think of it. Screw Rush, and especially screw Céline Dion.

I always expect the Americans I meet to like fried chicken, ketchup, mullets and those giant gulp cups of soft drinks you can get from 7-11.

Oh, and guns. Don't forget the NRA!

Disney, Gated Communities, Pepsi, KFC, Sally Field, Outlet Malls, Duty-Free Shops, Oversized Lawn Furniture, Bruce Springsteen, Mitch Album books, Oprah, Dr Phil, Howard Stern, GPS, Dilbert, Garfield, Baywatch, CSI, Judge Judy and/or Judge Joe Brown, and Soap Operas.

Also, RUSH are awesome!

.... and Avril is HOT. spolied little drunk, but HOT.

Ok Mr. man... you and I are going to have to have a little talk. Rush are... ok, I can't really say they are that terrible, so I won't go there. They do have some nostalgia tied to them for me and so OK, I can give you that. But Avril is boring in looks and style. Seriously, she STILL dresses like a 16 year old MySpace Hot Topic tart and her personality is UGLY. That to me negates any hotness she might have by virtue of birth.

I like Disneyworld, which doesn't suit my personality at all...I really dislike most Disney movies a lot. HaHa... GPS? How random is that?

Rush ... first album is awesome in it's Zeppelinesque intensity ... Fly By Night and Caress Of Steel ... epic prog metal for 12-year olds discovering Lord Of The Rings for the first time ... 2112 s minor masterpiece ... Farewell To Kings and Hemispheres ... very 70's prog, lyrics get a tad too nerdy sometimes ... which, admittedly, kinda spoils most of Permanent Waves ... but then they cap off a decade of amazing work with their crown jewel, 'Moving Pictures' ... an instant classic ... after that, I will admit, they suck.

SCTV, not all bad (some great talent came out of there), plus I love ketchup chips.

Also, Canadians are all pretty different. I'm glad I"m not forced into liking everything I like

I loved ketchup chips when I was a kid but it`s really always been Humpty Dumpty BBQ for me! (which I think are now Old Dutch BBQ?) Ok, I'm talking about chips...
