Virginia

Did some more research into this Virginia Beach thing, there's state park camping 15 minutes from the beach strip where the surfing championships will be, perfect! 

I've only ever driven through Virginia on my way south and I did once drive there to rescue a dog but that was just a quick overnight there and back. I do realize that Virginia beach is a major tourist town, but you know what, I'm OK with that for a change.  I know I can still find some more remote things to do too.

I noticed that you can go "crabbing" I am SO getting a saltwater fishing license for that!  I also want to see the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse, Great Dismal Swamp, do a Kayak excursion and of course I understand there are many great old museum houses to be toured.  Finally I want to go to Chincoteague Island to see the wild ponies!

Does anyone have any suggestions on anything I'm missing that I should check out in this area?
