I've been suffering with some pretty intense stomach issues for a couple of months now, continuous heartburn, severe gas pains in the chest etc. I've eliminated smoking completely over the past few months and have nearly eliminated all drinking and am now starting to work through my diet in an attempt to get things back on track.
Today, I had an avocado, a hard boiled egg and some cherries. So far, so good. I also had a mint tea this morning. Tonight I am planning to have some broiled fish, cauliflower and a potato, with only the tiniest bit of of butter. I suppose that seems really boring, but I like those foods, so that's good.
I will be eliminating extra fats (lots of butter, frying oils etc.) and will pick essential oils up from things like avocado and nuts. No meats except fish and occasionally chicken, no skin, and not fried. Lunches will continue to be fruits and I think tomorrow I will make a whole wheat wrap with chicken breast, avocado mashed and spread instead of mayo or dressing, sprouts and cucumber and a sprinkling of Herbamare (which if you haven't tried it, is tasty and an excellent salt replacement!) No juices except low-acid apple occasionally. Lots of water. Almond Milk (which fortunately I really love, especially the vanilla, it's great on cereals).
I think I can work in going out to eat occasionally too, sushi has always been fine for me, I can eliminate the tempura which honestly I can live without anyway. Lots of papaya. Oatmeal for breakfasts.
I don't know if I can work magic on my own but even just the changes I've made for today have made a HUGE difference in how I feel already.
and so that is that. Suddenly this seems like a healthy eating blog.

6 dirty hippies blowing your mind:
just remember to include protein in every meal! sounds like you are anyways. jan and i are both aggressively dieting since october (30 pounds so far, yay!) and working out 4 times a week and watching what we eat. it's amazing how much you can eliminate and not miss (butter, for example. and snacks -- chips and chocolate, etc). on the other hand, not eating bread just plain SUCKS :(
wow, good for you guys! I agree and have always found that when I don't eat chips, candy etc. I stop feeling the urge to eat it. On the other hand, when I do eat it, I tend to want MORE!
I guess it really helps if you are someone who enjoys a wide variety of foods; it doesn't feel so much like deprivation if you still enjoy your options. I imagine there are many people out there who are so wrapped up in fast food and butter/salt/chocolate/cakes etc. that to make any change is brutal.
Yes, bread is pretty damn special. I don't think I can cut bread 100% out of my diet. I am going to use whole wheat wraps occasionally and cut down on bread though. Maybe once or twice per week tops (that once-twice includes the wrap).
I also love to bake...so I figure if I keep that to say once per month and only do things like say, banana bread (I make a pretty darn tasty banana bread!), it's not too terrible.
I'm planning to do Yoga again soon...maybe starting next month. We got a couple of groupons for Regent.
yeah, i agree -- if you have it, you want more. best to just simply not ever bring it in the house. i eat a chicken or turkey wrap almost every day for lunch, but other than that i have largely eliminated bread from my diet. i miss it!! we will, maybe once a month, order a small pizza from the Bread Bar and that will be our treat -- including the crust! (they have the BEST crust!). thankfully, a protein-rich diet means you can still enjoy eggs and a bit of cheese. i will, maybe once a month, have a small steak (good for iron, good for protein -- just gotta get one that is small and lean). jan is very much on a kick to eliminate ALL beef from her diet and she is apprehensive to eat anything that has additives and preservatives (which is a LOT). it costs a lot of money to eat well, but it can be done. incidentally, jan uses groupon for yoga (she has been doing Hot Yoga, which is insane!) ... i don't think she's used Regent yet, tho, i will have to mention that to her.
bread is almost impossible for me. love it so!
Yes, bread is wonderful! Imagine, here in France, denying oneself of bread? Impossible!
I think because I am doing this for reasons other than diet/losing weight, I will not be cutting ALL bread out of my diet. In fact, bread is something that doesn't bother my stomach at all! It's also always been something that I've eaten in moderation so I'm OK in that department!
