Welcome to my book club

I read A LOT but I realize I am terrible at reviewing books for other people.  I'm also terrible at reviewing films, remembering details of films, talking about TV shows etc.  I'm not sure why that is, but I'm not joking, I'm REALLY bad at it.

Right now I'm reading 4 books at the same time; I pick up whichever one I am in the mood for.  They include:

1. Eating the Dinosaur - Chuck Klosterman
2. The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe - Randy Taraborelli
3. On a Dollar a Day: One Couple's Unlikely Adventures in Eating in America - Christopher Greenslate, Kerri Leonard
4. A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail - Bill Bryson

I can give you some quick reasons why I've got these books on the go.

1. The Chuck Klosterman, well I like his style.  I find his writing witty and interesting and this book is a series of essays about, well, pop culture to sum it up quickly.  I always enjoy his insights, particularly about music.

2. The Marilyn book for me is a no brainer since I love Marilyn Monroe.  It's pure fan reading for me.  I've only just started this one (about 50 pages in) and already I've learned tons of things about her I never knew.  Naturally 50 some pages in she's still a little girl.  Man, the poor woman had quite the family.

3. I tend to read books about people trying to accomplish things, whether it's working minimum wage jobs, going undercover, pretty much any sort of non-fiction like that is a sure thing for me.  So far this one isn't one of the best of the genre that I've read (I greatly preferred Nickel and Dimed for example) but it's relatively interesting and these two have a blog as well. Sometimes I feel like there's a bit of a holier than thou feel to these sorts of books, also maybe I'm getting a little sick of the "let's try to accomplish something we don't really need to do and write a blog and get a book deal" thing, but we'll see how it pans out.

4. Bill Bryson is another author who's writing I enjoy.  He writes a lot about travel and places, with a touch of humour.  I'm reading this book because I'm interested in doing some of the Appalachian trail this summer. Not only does the book recount his own experiences on the trail, it provides a lot of interesting factual info about its history and more current status.

I prefer non-fiction as you can see, although I do love a good novel when I find it.

OK, so there are my shitty book reviews.

Klosterman sometimes comes off as a bit of a jerk in my opinion, but his stuff is pretty good.
